What to use for photo printing?
Since the range of photographic paper in the market is very large, the printing of photos turns into a creative process. Having selected various types of paper properly, you can achieve fantastic results in printing on your home printer. Lomond paper described below can be easily divided into two categories: paper for the printing of traditional photos; and paper for art printing. We will closely examine the both samples. Lomond Premium Photo Paper has a wide range of solidity (from 170 to 300 g/m2, 8 types of solidity in total), paper with a density of 285 g/m2 is double-sided. Although, the whole range of densities covers the Super Glossy paper only. Meanwhile, there are two other types of paper: Semi Glossy and Matt, the latter is included in our review with a density of 290 g/m2. Microcellular surface of the paper provides fast and easy ink absorption of both pigmentary and water-soluble inks. On the other hand, the polyester covering (this material normally used for fabrics and mimefil) does not let the paper warp even when printing very rich images, when the surface is almost covered with a thick layer of inks. As to the sample in question, its density, thickness and fine-grained structure of the surface are perfectly match with that type of matt paper used for the printing of photos in professional photo saloons. Lomond Fine Art paper of Gallery series is an art photographic paper. The sample presented by us is optimized for pigmentary-ink printing (although it is possible to use water-soluble inks). Besides, being proof against the environmental activity, the images on this paper will remain for a long time. Extra Smooth Extra White DS paper with a density of 200 g/m2 is double-sided. This paper is very bright and extremely white. Despite its being proof against harmful effects (such us sunlight), this paper, which is matt, soft, and silk, is also very sensitive to mechanical failures that is why it is important to print carefully on it and keep the images in a protected way. For example, it is highly recommended to keep them in a photo album with special plastic pockets or in a glassy frame (or at least in an envelope or in a folder). However, it is not recommended to overdry images or to keep them in wet places, as well as not to expose them to high or low temperatures (close to 0°С or below). The two examined samples provide perfect color rendering, image contrast and sharpness. Satin Premium Photo Paper lets the printed images to comply with matt photos printed in professional photo saloons. While Extra Smooth Extra White paper gives the matt softness, making the lines and contrasts softer, colors – deeper, totally eliminates aggressiveness of colors.
